Sim Aircraft

Lear 75, Lear 60, or CL-601 (whatever is available)

Behavioral Questions

  • Scenario-type questions about judgment and decision-making

Technical Questions

  • Basic aviation knowledge and operations questions

Tips

  • Sim is stick-and-rudder demo - don't red-screen the sim
  • Remember 200kt speed limit on initial climb departure
  • Profile and callouts sent in advance - review carefully
  • DFW portion is relaxed and enjoyable - great people
  • Cleveland HR interview is the critical gate - be very careful with HR
  • 78-question online HR assessment can be a surprise eliminator
  • Consider hiring a lawyer or shrink to coach on the HR questionnaire
  • aviationinterviews.com premium membership matches well for Flexjet
  • Gateway cities: FLL, DFW, DEN, MDW, TEB, LAX
  • Must be within 90 minutes of gateway city airport on first duty day

Interview Experience

Flexjet splits things between DFW for the sim and pilot panel, and Cleveland for the HR interview. Sim is basic instrument work in a Lear or Challenger. They're testing trainability, not looking for perfection. Heads up though: there's a 78-question online HR assessment they send after the interview and some people have gotten cut there, which catches everyone off guard.

Interview Stages

Phone screenHiring event in DFWInterviewSimulator evaluation

Tips

  • Get an internal recommendation if possible
  • Hiring event dates can be booked out several months in advance
  • The process starts with a phone screen before the in-person event

Interview Experience

I looked into the Flexjet interview process while considering a move from my current 135 operation. The process starts with a phone screen, and if you pass that, you get invited to their hiring event. As of recent reports, the hiring event dates were booked out into September with earlier slots occasionally opening up. The hiring event itself requires a trip down to DFW for an in-person interview and a simulator evaluation. Having an internal recommendation from a current Flexjet pilot seems to help significantly in getting your foot in the door. Several people mentioned that the hiring events run on a regular cadence and getting a referral can sometimes help you get an earlier date.

Behavioral Questions

  • General get-to-know-you behavioral questions
  • Good cop/bad cop style questioning

Company Questions

  • Company overview provided during interview - pay, schedule, benefits

Tips

  • Interview is low stress overall - company wants to make sure you know what you are getting into
  • Company pays for airfare and hotels though billing may not be set up - you might pay out of pocket initially
  • Conditional offer comes about a week after sim ride
  • Nothing technical in the panel interview at CLE - focus on personality and fit
  • Sim ride is a non-event if you use trim properly
  • Be prepared for the CL300 sim to have no hydraulic assist on some units

Interview Experience

Flexjet was three stages: Skype screen first, then HR panel at CLE headquarters where they did a bit of good cop/bad cop, and finally the sim ride in Dallas with the chief pilots. CL300 sim: SID, ILS to missed, V1 cut. Company covered travel. Low stress overall. Got the conditional offer about a week later.
