  • Complete OE before resigning from prior employer - under AQP the type rating is not validated until IOE and final line check are complete
  • You can bypass one training date, but must take the second or you're out of the pool for a year

Interview Experience

Interviewed at Omni Air and got hired on the spot, they handed me a disc with FCOMs to start studying. Another guy in my group got offered a slot but had a 3-4 month wait for class. The flight department is all pilots and if they called you in, they want you there. In my week 4 out of 5 got invited to class. Hiring into both the DC-10 and 757/767. You know before you leave the building if you're in.

In-person interview at Tulsa headquarters. Interviews conducted Tuesday through Wednesday through Thursday. Results given same day before you leave.

Tips

  • A letter of recommendation from someone at Omni is very helpful for getting an interview
  • They hire into both DC-10 and 757/767 fleets
  • They value heavy jet type ratings (777/767/757/747/DC-10/L-1011/DC-8/707/KC-135) and extensive international experience
  • 121 experience is preferred -- corporate pilots have reportedly not done as well in training
  • They are flexible on hours but being short on PIC time may mean longer time in the right seat
  • Call the fleet manager on Mondays to schedule interviews
  • Complete OE before resigning if you leave -- under AQP the type rating is not validated until IOE and final line check are done
  • Schedule is 18 days on per month, done in one or two blocks, with 12-13 days off
  • Send updated resume every 3-6 months if not called initially

Interview Experience

I got a call from the fleet manager to set up an interview at Omni in Tulsa. The interview group was small, about five people, and four out of five were invited to class. The flight department is all pilots and they are genuinely pro-applicant. If they called you, they want you. You find out whether you are hired before you go home the same day. They were hiring into both the DC-10 and the 757/767 at the time. Having a heavy jet type rating and long-haul international experience helps a lot, as does a letter of recommendation from someone already at Omni. The schedule is 18 days on per month and they fly worldwide including Shannon, Kuwait, and domestic charters.

Interview Experience

Omni is ACMI/charter running 777s and 767s. Home-based but the trips are long, 18+ days out. Interview is mostly personality and culture fit since the lifestyle is demanding. Sim eval is about showing you can handle initial type training. They were ramping up hiring because of a new contract.
