What to Expect at Your PlaneSense Interview

The PlaneSense interview typically begins with a phone screen followed by a panel interview at their Portsmouth, NH base covering behavioral and technical topics. Interviewers assess your single-engine turboprop knowledge—particularly PC-12 and PC-24 systems—alongside CRM principles and your ability to adapt to seasonal New England charter operations. Expect TMAAT-style behavioral questions alongside direct technical questions about aircraft systems, weather decision-making, and charter operations.

Interview Stages

virtual technical interviewin-person: sim eval + HR

Behavioral Questions

  • Most scared you've been in an airplane
  • Why PlaneSense
  • Customer-service expectations of fractional flying

Technical Questions

  • Rapid-fire: ~8 Jepp plates in ~20 minutes
  • Chart symbology — know every symbol
  • Procedure turns: when and how
  • Missed approach points and climb-via SIDs
  • Sim: simple SID and an ILS (GPS disabled — raw-data ground-based nav)

Tips

  • The technical is deliberately fast — instrument-checkride depth at speed
  • A company pilot describes the sim and HR stages as low-key; the technical screen is the filter
  • They probe whether you actually understand the customer-service nature of the job — have a real answer

Interview Experience

PlaneSense splits the process cleanly: a fast-paced virtual technical built around rapid Jepp plate work, then a relaxed in-person day with a Redbird sim ride flown on ground-based nav only. Candidates who treat the screen like an instrument oral at double speed do well; the rest of the process is fit assessment.

Tips

  • Minimum 1000-1200 TT for FO position (1200 is the stated number but they have been known to fudge it for the right candidate)
  • Strong actual IMC time improves your chances
  • Must hold Commercial or ATP with single and multi-engine land ratings
  • Must live within 2 hours of PSM or PDK base
  • Call or email HR directly after submitting online application
  • Turnaround from interview to job offer can be as fast as the next morning
  • 18-month MOU ($8k prorated, 6% interest) but reportedly not enforceable in NH
  • FO classes held approximately every other month

Interview Experience

Interviewed at PlaneSense (Alpha Flying) up in Portsmouth NH. Turnaround is fast, I got the call the next morning with the offer. Mins are around 1200 TT for FO and they really care about actual instrument time. You need to live within 2 hours of PSM or PDK. There's an 18-month training MOU at $8k but word is it's never been enforced in New Hampshire.
